Frequently asked questions about vending machines

Do vending machines require a permit?

To operate a vending machine you need a business registration. In public space, most German municipalities also require a special-use permit. On private commercial property this requirement usually does not apply. For regulated products such as tobacco or CBD, youth protection rules (JuSchG) apply and age verification is mandatory. For food, HACCP standards and the KassenSichV (TSE requirement) must be met. vyndo vending advises you on the entire permit process.

Is the machine GDPR-compliant?

Yes. All vyndo systems run GDPR-compliant and SSL-encrypted — from the payment terminal to the cloud dashboard. Personal data is only created where you actively use a function: with the optional age verification, ID and camera data are checked in real time and not stored (privacy by design). Payment data is processed by the certified payment terminal, not by the machine itself. The telemetry transmits operational data only — fill levels, revenue, device status — with no personal reference. For locations with special requirements, such as pharmacies or clinics, we advise you on a data-protection-compliant configuration. For many B2B locations, that is exactly the sign-off criterion for the IT and legal departments.

What does maintenance cost?

It depends on your financing model. With rental and leasing, maintenance is included in the monthly price — covering remote diagnostics, on-site repairs and spare-part delivery. When you buy, you can add a maintenance package or pay only when you need it. The real cost advantage lies in the telemetry: your machine reports faults such as a coin jam or temperature deviations in real time — before you lose revenue. We solve many issues by remote access, with no technician on site. vyndo installs software updates automatically over the cloud. All maintenance contracts are transparently calculated and predictable — no hidden costs and no restrictive lock-in terms.

How much profit does a snack machine make per month?

A snack machine generates between 100 and 6,000 euros in revenue per month depending on location. The profit margin is around 50 percent after the cost of goods. At high-traffic locations such as office buildings, train stations or clinics, revenue in the upper range is realistic. With DOOH advertising on the built-in display, you gain a second revenue stream that further improves your ROI. At good locations, a purchased machine pays for itself within 6 to 12 months.

How much does a vending machine cost?

A vending machine costs between 2,000 and 15,000 euros net, depending on the type and configuration. Hot-drink machines start at around 2,000 euros, snack and beverage machines with a touchscreen and cooling run from 3,000 to 8,000 euros, and premium models with a 55-inch display and DOOH advertising function reach up to 15,000 euros. Alternatively, you can rent (from a one-day term) or lease (from 99 euros/month). All prices excl. VAT.

Which vending machine is the most profitable?

Snack and drink machines at high-traffic locations such as offices, clinics and train stations are among the most profitable configurations. The mix of high purchase frequency, roughly 50 percent margin and low operating costs leads to fast payback. Machines with an integrated digital signage display generate an additional revenue stream through DOOH advertising.

Why buy a new machine instead of a used one?

Used vending machines cost less to acquire, but they come with clear drawbacks: no IoT telemetry, no touchscreen, no cashless payment and no GDPR-compliant software. New smart machines from vyndo pay for themselves through higher revenue (a touchscreen drives impulse purchases, card payment raises transaction rates) and through the DOOH advertising function as a second income stream. On top of that you get a warranty, remote maintenance and automatic software updates.
