Vending Machine Contactless Payment: Tap and Go via NFC

At a station, clinic or in the office, hardly anyone wants to handle coins or type a PIN. Contactless payment via NFC solves this: hold up a card or phone, a short signal, take the goods. The payment takes milliseconds, and mechanical faults from jammed coins disappear.

NFC is the standard, no longer an extra

Apple Pay, Google Wallet, Samsung Pay and bank cards with an NFC chip are the norm today, not the exception. For you as an operator this pays off twice: the process takes milliseconds, queues at the machine get shorter, throughput rises. At the same time, mechanical faults from jammed coins or dirty note readers disappear, which means fewer service trips and less downtime. For contactless amounts under 50 euros, no PIN is usually needed, which speeds up almost every purchase at typical vending prices.

Security & hygiene

Security & hygiene

At a station or clinic, people avoid unnecessary contact. A tap-and-go system via NFC works without any coin contact. Our readers are placed intuitively and give visual feedback via LED.

Integration into vyndo machines

All our new machines are "Contactless Ready". We fit compact readers that blend neatly into the glass or metal front. No bulky box that sticks out. Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and cash, all common payment methods.

Telemetry connection

Monitor stock levels, revenue and device status in real time via app.

Digital signage option

Integrated screen for advertising and product information.

Flexible compartments

Adjust compartment sizes to your range. Spiral, lift or locker systems.

Contactless: technical details and options

Contactless payment is one of the most important features of a modern vending machine. At vyndo, every device can be configured with NFC, from the compact indoor model to the weatherproof outdoor station. The terminals come from market leaders such as Nayax and Ingenico and work over the industry standard MDB, so existing machines can be retrofitted too. The telemetry software gives you revenue and fault data in real time. An optional digital signage display turns the machine into an advertising surface as well.

Contactless in action

Clinic: hygienic payment across shifts

In a clinic, staff pay contactless at night with a company badge or phone. No coin contact, no wait before heading to the ward. NFC authorisation takes under a second, and the machine runs around the clock without cash handling.

Station: throughput during rush hour

At a station, travellers buy on the move with Apple Pay. Hold up a card or phone, take the goods, on to the platform. Without coin insertion, queues stay short, and the machine sells even at peak times without a jam at the front.

Office: loyalty via NFC card

A company issues NFC loyalty cards for the break-room machine. Staff pay cashless, with credit or discounts stored on the card. Telemetry shows which products run out fastest, and the operator refills exactly where it is needed.

Why contactless makes the difference

Contactless payment is no longer an add-on for modern machines but basic equipment. Anyone offering only coin insertion loses cashless buyers at the front. vyndo builds NFC directly into the hardware, over the industry standard MDB and terminals from Nayax or Ingenico. This means older machines can be retrofitted too, with no lock-in to a single provider. Management runs through our CMS software in the browser: change prices, maintain the range, run advertising, all remotely without an on-site visit. Every machine with a payment function is subject to the TSE requirement under KassenSichV; vyndo ships the machines TSE-compliant. How card and cash payment can be combined is explained on the page Vending Machine with Card Payment.

Technical specifications

Our NFC terminals work with the industry standards MDB and DEX/DDCMP. Software updates run over the air (OTA). Supported are Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, contactless Girocard and credit cards. Telemetry sends data via WiFi or a mobile SIM. Display options: 15 to 43 inches, Full HD, optionally with touch.

Costs and financing

An NFC kit works without complex coin mechanics and is easier to retrofit than a full coin changer. New devices with integrated contactless payment cost 3,000 to 15,000 euros net to buy. Rental from a one-day term, leasing from 99 euros/month net. The extra cost pays off through fewer mechanical faults and more cashless purchases.

Frequent questions about contactless

Does the customer need an app?

No, just their phone with a wallet or their card.

How secure is NFC?

Very secure. The range is extremely short (a few cm), so paying by accident is impossible.

Are there limits?

In Germany usually up to 50 euros without a PIN. Since vending amounts are low, it almost always works without a PIN.

What does retrofitting cost?

An NFC kit works without coin mechanics and is much easier to retrofit than a full coin changer. That is exactly why a contactless retrofit costs less than converting to a cash system. The specific amount depends on the machine model and the chosen terminal, which we calculate in the quote.

Does this also work with loyalty cards?

Yes, we can program NFC loyalty cards.

Does it work offline?

To a limited extent. An online authorisation is usually needed (takes < 1 sec).

Which providers?

We work with established terminal manufacturers such as Nayax and Ingenico. Both connect over the industry standard MDB, so you are not tied to a single provider. This secures spare parts, software updates and compatibility with common payment providers for the long term. The open standard also means that if you switch provider, you do not have to replace the entire hardware, only the terminal. This avoids the vendor lock-in that closed systems bring. Which terminal makes sense for your site and transaction volume is something we work out together in the quote.
